Isn't it always the way? You arrive for the Dogs' Dinner after the Show - and can you remember what you ordered from the menu?? No…… Oh, wait a minute…… I remember. I'm sure it's the Roast Beef and Yorkie!! Not to worry. Derryn's here, and she has helpfully typed out a list of all our orders.
And there it is, in bold print…… 'VEGETABLE DIM DUM' Old age is really catching up. I don't remember ordering that at all!! Still, I'll try anything at least once!
What a truly jolly evening. Somehow the Dim Dum has set me off in one of those childish sillies that I promised I would give up in deference to the onset of mellow maturity. After eating profiteroles instead of the soup, I eagerly await my main course.
Everyone else gets their plateful - where's mine? "Do start! Don't wait for me. I'm sure it will be here soon!" The waiter says my Dim Dum will be here shortly. They must have run out, or lost the recipe, or he's off to catch them outside! "Stop!" I cry plaintively "I'll have the Roast Beef!"
Too late. He's out of the door. Still, plenty of veg. on the side plate, loads of wine…… not so bad really! With a flourish, the waiter brings my plate, filled with an absolute mountain of Dim Dums! And they were worth the wait - very Yummy Dim Dum!! Trouble is - all the others have finished and some are off for a smoke in the Bar, and I've only demolished a small section of my mountain. Into the doggy bag with it, under the watchful eye of the bemused waiter!
Much later - after a brilliantly hilarious evening, we arrive home to a happy doggy welcome. I'm quite tinkled, but still clutching my bag of Dim Dums for the Girls. They deserve their Dogs' Dinner too!! And then I discover that they go mad for them!!
Take it from me - it's better than beef, or chicken, or even liver treats. If you want the latest invaluable training aid for your dog, then cook them some Dim Dums!! They'll do anything for them! So, next time you're in the Ring, and you notice an unusual smell - don't panic!! It's only me with my pocketful of Yummy Doggy Dim Dums!! Thanks Derryn!
